The first Community Farmers Market is Tuesday, June 20, and it runs until Thanksgiving weekend. On Tuesdays and Fridays they’re at the London Drugs parking lot on 8th Street. On Thursdays, the market is at the Peavey Mart Parking Lot on 51st Street. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm.

Garlic Ramps
The Garlic Garden will be back at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market at the end of June with ramps. Here are 5 easy ways to cook with ramps.

The Garden Patch
The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre offers a wide array of food and garden-related workshops at The Garden Patch. Here are just a few of the workshops that will be coming up shortly. You can find all the workshops listed on EcoFriendly Sask’s Calendar.

Aug. 17, 7-9 pm – Vegetable Storage & Longer Lasting Produce

Healthy, Local Food for Seniors
Three Nova Scotia organizations are working together to supply and deliver a food box of healthy local food to seniors. No grocery delivery service is available in the area, so this program will help seniors to stay in their own homes.

Ethical Dilemma
I was so excited to be able to buy strawberries at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market on Saturday from Steve and Dan’s BC Fresh Fruit. But they were BC strawberries. Should I have waited until I could purchase strawberries grown in Saskatchewan? Should BC fruit even be sold at the Saskatoon Farmers’ Market or should they only sell produce from the Saskatoon area? Is it better to buy BC fruit at the Market where I can meet and talk to the producer than to shop at the supermarket? What do you think?

Gorgeous Dutch heirloom Eersteling cabbages from Kaleidoscope Vegetable Gardens – an amazing find this early in the season.
