Join Slow Food International in raising your fork against climate change. Take the Eat Local Challenge and support Meatless Monday from Oct. 16-Nov. 5.

Rozendal Vinegar
Rozendal Vinegar is good enough to drink – and it’s now available online from Doug Reichel Wine Marketing with free shipping in October.

From Consumers to Food Citizens
“Sat around the table, breaking bread with our neighbours in traditional fashion, we ask the questions that are the business of the citizen. Does everyone have enough to eat? Are we producing healthy food? Are we caring for the soil and our wildlife, and are we rewarding our farmers, processors and cooks fairly? Are we bringing up the next generation with the skills and awareness they will need to feed themselves properly? We consider what sort of food system we want to see in our town, and ask ourselves how we might help that to happen.”

History through Squash
The history of squash is the history of culinary culture – from 13th century monastery gardens to 1980s patty pan and millennium butternut and turban.

Okanagan’s Natural Wines
Natural wines are on a roll in the Okanagan with wines fermented in concrete amphora from Haywire, Cedar Creek, Laughing Stock, and others to biodynamic wine from Summerhill and wild fermented/unfiltered wine from Tantalus. I can vouch for Haywire’s natural wine – it’s fantastic.

Flavourful Saskatoon is a weekly Monday feature. I also post articles about food that is good, clean and fair; travel; and books. You may also enjoy EcoFriendly Sask profiling Saskatchewan environmental initiatives and events.
